i found a bunch of different tabs for king of pain, but couldn't find anything that
good on an acoustic guitar. so here's something easy that will get you folk singers through
song. it starts on Am, instead of Bm, so capo the second fret if you're playing with a
or along with the album.

with the [G/C] world turning [Dm7] circles running [C/E] 'round my [F] brain
i guess [G/C] I'm always [Dm7] hoping that you'll [C/E] end this [F] reign
but it's [G/C] my desti- [Dm7] ny to be the[C/E] king of [F] pain

verse:

there's a [Am] little black spot on the sun today (that's my soul up there)
it's the [G] same old thing as yesterday [Em] (that's my soul up) [F] (there)
there's a [Am] black hat caught in a high tree top (that's my soul up there)
There's a [G] flagpole rag and the wind won't stop [Em] (that's my soul up) [F] (there)

chorus:

i have [C] stood here before inside the pouring [F] rain
with the [C] world turning circles running 'round my [F] brain

but it's [C] my destiny to be the king of [F]pain

verse repeats

chorus repeats

outro:

there's a [Am] red fox torn by a huntsmen's pack (that's my soul up there)
there's a [G] black winged gull with a broken back [Em] (that's my soul up) [F] (there)
there's a [Am] little black spot on the [NC] sun today
it's the [NC] same old thing as yesterday [Em] [F]

refrain:

i have [C] stood here before inside the pouring [F] rain
with the [C] world turning circles running 'round my [F] brain
i guess [C] i'm always hoping that you'll end this [F] reign
but it's [C] my destiny to be the king of [F] pain

fade out [C] to [F] repeats

notes- the timing is a little weird for the intro where it goes [Bsus/E] [Bm/E] [Fmaj7]
but not that hard. in the second part of the intro, the chords are the way they are so
can walk up with the bass line if you listen for it. also, i usually play the open [G]
for the [Am] [G] part, and a barre [G] for the [F] [G] part.
depending on how you're playing this, you might want to keep the chord switches during
verses, on the album it sounds like a muted arpeggio, so i just finger-pick it.
the [NC] in the outro is for no chords.
and here are the chords you will need, in order, for the intro:

intro:
[Am] x 0 2 2 1 0
[G] 3 2 0 0 0 3
[F] 1 3 3 2 1 1
[G] 3 5 5 4 3 3
[Bsus/E] 0 2 4 4 0 0
[Bm/E] 0 2 4 4 3 2
[Fmaj7] x x 3 2 1 0
[Fmaj7/C] x 3 3 2 1 0

[G/C] x 3 0 0 0 3
[Dm7] x x 0 2 1 1
[C/E] 0 3 2 0 1 0
[F] 1 3 3 2 1 1
