Kate Rusby - As I Roved Out

INTRO: G C D

Am C D G
As I roved out one fine May morning
C G Am D
To view the meadows and flowers gay
C D Am
Oh, who should I spot, but my own true lover
C G D
As she sat by yon willow tree

Am C D G
I took off my hat and I did salute her
C G Am D
I did salute her most courageously
C D Am
As she turned around, the tears fell from her
C G D
Saying, "False young man, you've deluded me

Am C D G
And the diamond ring I behold, I gave to you
C G Am D
A diamond ring to wear on your right hand
C D Am
But the vows you made, love, you went and broke them
C G D G C G Am
And you wed the lassie who has the land."

C D G
"If I wed the lassie who has the land, my love,
C G Am D
It's that I'll rue 'til the day I die.
C D Am
When misfortune falls, sure the man may shun it,
C G D Am
It was my fault, that I'll not deny"

INSTRUMENTAL: C G C Am D C D Am C D

Am C D G
"And at night when I go to my bed of slumber
C G Am D
The thoughts of my love are in my mind.
C D Am
As I turn around to embrace my darling,
C G D
Oh, instead of gold, sure 'tis brass I will find

Am C D G
And I wish The Queen would bring home all her armies
C G Am D
From the West Indies, America and Spain.
C D Am
And every man to his wedded woman
C G D
Oh, in hopes that I might be with thee again"
