[Intro]
C Gadd9 C Gadd9 C

[Verse]
C
Like a bird she was wounded, a prisoner he found
G
He kept her beside him on the ground
C
She wanted him to release her, but he didn't want her to fly
G
He had come to depend on seeing her cry

[Chorus]
F Am
He cut her wings
Dm7 C
But she could still sing
G C
He didn't see he could never stop her heart

[Verse]
C
Just like in a cage, he kept her, but inside she grew strong
G
And in some ways it was nice to have a place to belong
C
But freedom called in its own way, soft moonlit nights in her thoughts
G
And the war raged on inside that she always fought

[Chorus]
F Am
He cut her wings
Dm7 C
But she could still sing
G C
He didn't see he could never stop her heart

[Bridge]
F Am
Ah, the love that plays in the strangest ways
Dm7 C G
She felt his warm embrace like fire inside her
F Am
And when the day would break, it seemed her heart would shake
Dm7 C G
She knew he had her soul at stake

[Instrumental]
G C G

[Chorus]
F Am
He cut her wings
Dm7 C
But she could still sing
G C
He didn't see he could never stop her heart

[Verse]
C
Like a bird she was wounded, a prisoner he found
G
But time was running out, he couldn't keep her down
C
So one day he released her, thinking that she wouldn't go
G
But how she was able to fly was something he'd never know, no, no

[Chorus]
F Am
He cut her wings
Dm7 C
But she could still sing
G C G
He didn't see he could never stop her heart

[Chorus]
F Am
He cut her wings
Dm7 C
But she could still sing
G C
He didn't see he could never stop her heart, oh no
G C
He didn't see he could never stop her heart
