This song comes from both recordings (live and solo) of Troubadour from the DVD "Justin
Live in San Juan Capistrano". In order to play this song correctly, the tabs must be
exactly as diagrammed at the bottom of this page. If not, you'll have a very hard time

Verse 1:

G D G C
I was only a little boy when I heard the call,

D C G
like a voice in the wilderness calls to us all.

D G C
So I took to the gypsy life in the city of love,

D C G/Gadd9/G/Gadd9/G/
and I walked with the Troubadours, and flew with the doves...

C D
...in the city of love.

(cont. from above) D / Dsus2 / D / Dsus2 / G / Gadd9 / G / Gadd9 / G / Bm /
Bmadd11 / Bm /Bmadd11 / Bm / G / Gadd9 / G / Gadd9 / G /

Verse 2:

G D G C
In the garden of paradise I heard a voice sing,

D C G
I could still feel the thrill of it; the chills it would bring.

D G C
Far away in the western sky over the sea,

D C G /
/ G / Gadd9 / G /
there's a land that I dream about; peaceful and free...

C D / Dsus2 / D / Dsus2 /
...waiting for me.

Chorus:

(The correct tabs for the walkdown are shown below, but it sounds just as good just to
down the low E string from the 12th fret and play on beat with the music.)

[Low] E --12-11-10-7-6-5-3-0--

C G C G
Hold my hand, let me take you there,

C G D
let's go walking in the morning.

C G C G
As time goes by, love will wash us clean,

C G D
let love bring to us our freedom.

G D A D
And we will sing of the heroes, that fly on the breeze.

G D
Love with the lovers of the world.

A A7 D (Inro x1)
Oh... Oh... Oh....... We'll be free......

Verse 3:

G D G C
In the dark of the mystic night music is born,

D C G
in the hands of the Troubadour, the piper of dawn.

D G C
And it's heard on a foreign shore over the sea,

D C G / Gadd9 /G / Gadd9 / G /
in a land that we dream about; peaceful and free...

C D / Dsus2 / D / Dsus2 /
...waiting for me.

Chorus:

I think that's about it. This is a great acoustic song, and not too hard either. All I
to say is that Justin Hayward is a genius...
