Biography:
James McMurtry (born March 18, 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas) is a Texas rock/Texas Country singer, songwriter, guitarist, bandleader and occasional actor (Daisy Miller, Lonesome Dove). He performs as James McMurtry And The Heartless Bastards with veteran bandmates and rhythm section Darren Hess and Ronnie Johnson (not to be confused with the Cincinnati, OH, band Heartless Bastards).
The son of acclaimed author Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove, Terms of Endearment), James grew up on a steady diet of Johnny Cash and Roy Acuff records.

Four years of hard work!This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
This is not actually a tab of James's original version of this song from
his "Just Us Kids" album, but rather a tab of my own, slower, bluesy version
that you can hear on my ultimate-guitar site:

This particular version mainly uses a Baritone guitar tuned to Open A#
(A#-F-A#-D-F-A#), with a slide.
I've actually modified the words slightly in places, since I play it in a
band called Going Out" and couldn't resist replacing the original references
to "when the lines go down" with "when the lights are going out". I sent a
note to James on his MySpace site, and he didn't reply to say "how dare
you!" or anything else, so I'm assuming it must be more or less OK with him.
Having said all that, the chords still play OK but are not in the same key
as the original, which is in A (so the intro would be A-D-A-D-A-D-E). An
Open G tuning would give the same sort of slide sound as on my recording.
I hope you enjoy using it.
