In My Hour Of Darkness

by Gram Parsons
Gram Parsons

Biography:

Gram Parsons (November 5, 1946 – September 19, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist born Ingram Cecil Connor, III. A solo artist as well as a member of The International Submarine Band, The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, he is best known for a series of recordings which anticipate the country rock of the 1970s and the alt-country movement that began in the 80s. In My Hour Of Darkness
Written by Emmylou Harris & Gram Parsons
Recorded by Gram Parsons with Emmylou Harris

Capo on 3

[Intro]
| A | A | G | D | D |

D
In my hour of darkness, in my time of need
A G D
Oh, Lord, grant me vision, oh, Lord, grant me speed
D
Once I knew a young man went driving through the night
A G D
Miles and miles without a word with just his high-beam lights

[Chorus 1]
G D G D
Who'd have ever thought they'd build such a deadly Denver bend
A G D
To be so strong, to take as long as it would till the end

[Instrumental]
| A | A | G | D | A | A | G | D |

D
In my hour of darkness, in my time of need
A G D
Oh, Lord, grant me vision, oh, Lord, grant me speed
D
An- other young man safely strummed his silver string guitar
A G D
And he played to people everywhere, some say he was a star

[Chorus 1]
G D G D
But he was just a country boy, his simple songs con- fess
A G D
And the music he had in him, so very few pos- sess
D
In my hour of darkness, in my time of need
A G D
Oh, Lord, grant me vision, oh, Lord, grant me speed

[Instrumental]
| A | A | G | D |

[Verse]
D
Then there was an old man, kind and wise with age
A G D
And he read me just like a book and he never missed a page

[Chorus 2]
G D G D
And I loved him like my father, and I loved him like my friend
A G D
And I knew his time would shortly come, but I did not know just when
D
In my hour of darkness, in my time of need
A G D
Oh, Lord, grant me vision, oh, Lord, grant me speed

[Outro]
A G D
Oh, Lord, grant me vision, oh, Lord, grant me speed
