Grace Petrie Overheard From the Whatever's Left album.

Capo 2

It can be played without a capo, but the run down from G to C in the chorus is difficult to play without one
as it becomes A through A/g# to D.

The F# in the chorus and bridge is hard to make out: it may be a full chord, played as a bass in the Em
chord, or just as a bass note on its own.

The strumming pattern for the verses is:

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
||:u---------d-u-d|u---------d-u-d:||

For example:

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
||:Em---------C-C-C|G---------C-C-C:||

As the song progresses more strums are put in in various ways, but keeping the &-4-&-1 beat.

[Verse]

C Em
How have you been
C G
Its been a long time
C Em
Since you been in
C G
I've not seen you 'round
C Em
And how's your work
C G
And how's your singing
C Em
I've been looking out
C G
For your name

[Chorus]

D Em
And then your tongue slips and my throat sticks
C G G/F#
And our friendship is just so sensitive
C G
And racist jokes from funny blokes
D Em F#
You know some folks are just so sensitive
C G D
And I wish I had argued but you're the one
Em F#m C
with my throat to a blade
Am B C D
Yeah long live the P - C brigade

[Verse]

N.C Em
And I think
C G
You're quite a nice guy
C Em
And I think
C G
You quite like me too
C Em
And I'm sure
C G
The idea that you've hurt me
C Em C G
Would be embarrising to you

[Bridge]

D Em C G
And its not your fault that I didn't call you out
D Em F#m C
And ask you not to use that word
C (ringing)
But I think all that would achieve
G (ringing)
Is next time you would check to see
N.C.
You're not overheard
