Faded Paper Figures

Small Talk

by Faded Paper Figures
Faded Paper Figures

Biography:

Bands typically break up after college. People move away, grow apart, or just shrivel up and get jobs. It was good while it lasted, right? But what happens when the music is so good, the band’s listeners so devout, the ambition to keep creating so strong that even the time-draining power of day jobs can’t get in the way? Such is the story of Faded Paper Figures, whose “day jobs” are not exactly easy gigs: Heather Alden is in residency after graduating from medical school (a real doctor!)

Am C Am C
Mapping out the Interstate, my finger prints a figure eight
Am C F
We come around, we've seen this place before.
Am C Am C
And climbing up the empire state you hold my hand and hesitate
Am C F
A camera shot, we've seen this place before.

Am C Am C
We're welded in gridlock. We're watching the wall clock.
Am C F
All the literate small talk keeps us sane.
Am C Am C
We work by the windows. Feels soft where the wind blows.
Am C F
All the literate small talk keeps us sane.

All the same again:
Verse:
In cubicles we simulate. A broken wall, a city state.
We're lost in files, we've seen this place before.
A counterculture elevates. We cross it out, we can't erase
a sous rature, we've seen this place before.

Chorus: (repeated)
We're welded in gridlock
We're watching the wall clock
All the literate small talk keeps us sane.
We work by the windows
Feels soft where the wind blows.
All the literate small talk keeps us sane.

The bassline for the chorus is pretty simple but sounds great. Look:
