Silent Passage
By Bob Carpenter

Easy song from Bob Carpenter's mind-blowing 1974 (released in 1984) country-folk album Silent Passage.
Standard tuning EADGBE
No Capo

G / C / D / C / G

[Verse 1]
G Em D
Before the war I had no need for travelling
C G
Indeed I do not know what made it so important to leave
Em D
And after all this time I found that I’m avoiding me
Am C
For nothing more or less than fear
G Em D
Of what I have to gain from staying in the clear
Am C G
Although it’s only coming home that brings you near

[Verse 2]
G Em D
Master come my brother is a sailor
C G
Upon this ship of life we are the master-sails in the wind
Em D
And you can understand we need a hand to guide us in
Am C
So many claim to be the one
G Em
But like a shadow on the sun
D
They fade and spin
Am C G
And we are scattered on the ocean once again

[Verse 3]

Am C G
Although it’s only coming home that brings a tear
