Austin Lucas

Dead Factories

by Austin Lucas
Austin Lucas

Biography:

Born in Bloomington, Indiana, Austin Lucas was taught how to sing by his musician father Robert Lucas before he could even speak. At home or in the car, his family would sing and make music. They would travel throughout the summertime to folk, bluegrass and old time music festivals where his father would perform every year.

As Lucas became old enough to attend school, he also was sent to the Indiana University Children's Choir to hone his gift of singing.

Intro
E C#m-B-A B C#m-B-A E B E
When switching from E play the the
between the C#m and A transition walk your index finger and play the B on the A string

E C#m
I'd stayed indoors unless you count the front porch
A B
Eaten little, save for cigarettes and fear
C#m
My knife was unsheathed
A
Singing come I will lead you
E
Singing women
B
Singing children
E
Screaming me
E C#m
The home I had made wasn't three years wasted
A B
But the man that I'd become wasted away
C#m
My thoughts turned more sour
A
With each slur I had spouted
E B E
And to reconcile I had to run away

E
I was more than a boy

Though all children will tease

Screaming friends
B
Singing voiceless harmony
E A
When I was a much younger man
E B E
In a town filled with dead factories

E C#m-B-A B C#m-B-A E B E

E
With June came the rain
C#m
And your mother went crazy
A B
She was banging on the door while I did sleep
C#m A
With all the broken glass and the police sirens passing
E B E
I admit I was afraid to be awake
E
I have tired old eyes but my face will betray
B
Sleepless nights bred by guilt of wicked days
C#m
Tell me here in your arms
A
Was I ever that man
E B E
In a town filled with dead factories
E B E
In a town filled with dead factories
E B E
In a town filled with dead factories
