by John Mark Mcmillan
John Mark Mcmillan

Biography:

John Mark McMillan is an indie rock artist from Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, where he grew up playing in local rock bands. In June of 2005, McMillan released his first album, Hope Anthology Volume One. Just a few months after the release of this album, McMillan lost his best friend in a tragic accident, bringing him into a troubling time. It was the grief caused by this accident, and the subsequent rise from it, that inspired him to create his second anthology, The Song Inside The Sounds of Breaking Down.

NEXT TO YOU
(capo 5)

Intro: Am7/Am…

Verse:
G
Without You, I'm just water and dust.
Am7
A disaster a face and a name
C G
Who am I kidding? Without You, I'm nothing at all
G
You catch when I fall, You return all my calls
Am7 C G
And You're never not around when I need You and I always do

Pre Chorus:
C D
On my own, I'm more than just alone.
C D
I'm colder than religion; I'm colder than stone
C D
Without You, I'm another waste of time
C D
Like words that only rhyme but aren't making any sense

Chorus:

C Am7
Can I get next to You now?
G D
Can I lean on Your perfection, can lean on You now?
C Am7
Can I get next to You now?
G D
Cuz I can't breathe without You anymore

Without You I'm left with just rocks in my chest
Aches and pains that will not recess
And the worst is - without You, I've got nothing left to say

Cuz you sweeten my days with that light amber haze
And I never could get away when I need You, yeah, and I always need You

On my own, I'm more than just alone. I'm colder than religion, I'm colder than stone
Without You, I'm another waste of time
Like words that only rhyme but aren't making any sense

CHORUS

Without You, I'm just water and dust… (lead break over verse progression)
