Gerry Rafferty

Night Owl

by Gerry Rafferty
Gerry Rafferty

Biography:

Gerald "Gerry" Rafferty (16 April 1947 – 4 January 2011) was a Scottish singer-songwriter. In his early years, Rafferty earned money by the formerly illegal practice of busking on the London Underground. Poetically, his biggest hit, 1978's "Baker Street", discusses busking at a tube station and being a part of the street life. After working with Billy Connolly (now better known as a comedian) in an obscure outfit known as The Humblebums, he released his first solo album, called 'Can I Have My Money Back', in 1971.

Night Owl by Gerry Rafferty

-Capo 3rd fret

This is the best I can figure and it sounds to me about right even though the D
maj shouldn’t normally be in a C key. feel free to correct anything

C G D
Night time comes and finds you alone
Am
In a space and time of your own
Em Bm C
Lost in dreams in a world full of shadows

C G D
Down the street the neon light shines
Am
Offering refuge and hope to the blind
Em Bm C
You stumble in with no thought of tomorrow

G D C
Yes I get lonely when the sun gets low
G D C
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
G D
Yes I should know better but I cant say no
Am Bm C* third fret barre
Oh no no nono nono no

G D
The lights are low and the music is loud
Am
You watch yourself as you play to the crowd
Em Bm C
One more face in a palace of mirrors
G D
One more drink your sailing away
Am Em
One more dream but its looking okay
C Bm C
One more time to watch the flow of the river

Yes I get lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes I should know better but I cant say no
Oh no no nono no no no no no no

Yes I get lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes I should know better but I cant say no
Oh no no
Oh no no no
No no no no no no no no no no

C D
You’ve seen it all yeah you’ve seen it before
Am Em
Like a fool you always come back for more
Bm C
You live your life like there was no more tomorrow
G D
Night time comes and finds you alone
Am
In a space and time of your own
Em Bm C
Lost in dreams in a world of shadows

Yes I get lonely when the sun gets low
And I end up looking for somewhere to go
Yes I should know better but I cant say no
Oh no no
Oh no no no
No no no no no no no no no no
