Biography:

Dave Matthews Band was formed in Charlottesville, VA in 1991 by South African native singer and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, the late LeRoi Moore, who played a wide variety of instruments from the saxophone to the flute, violin player Boyd Tinsley, drummer Carter Beauford, and keyboardist Peter Griesar (who left the band in 1993), all of whom Dave met in Charlottesville. In 1998, the band played shows with keyboardist Butch Taylor, although he was not officially a member of the band.

d
Hoping for a new beginning
b
To take me away from my surroundings
g b a
So I can finally say goodbye
d
Wondering what'll become of us
b
When we are all old and gray
g
And this time that we've spent together
b a
Was well worth our wait
d b
Think of the fun that we had

Not caring until the next morning
g
It feels so good to go through life
b a
With your eyes half open

-------------------------------------------------------

d b
We are all one and the same
g
We are lovers and brothers and sisters
b a
And most of all friends

-----------------------------------------------------
d
These years have passed us by so fast
b
It seems like we never got the chance
g
To realize how good life really was
b a
And let the moment last
d
And it feels like it was only yesterday
b
When we walked into this place
g b a
And said I can't wait till I get out of here

d b
And now as we walk down this aisle
g
With four years all rolled up in a scroll you can't help but think
b a
Hey Where did the time go

-----------------------------------------------------------

d b
We are all one and the same
g
We are lovers and brothers and sisters
b a
And most of all friends
b g
Hold on to your memories
b g
Hold on to those little things
b g
And I hope you receive as much as you get
d a
Cause when you die they're the only things
d g
That you can take to your grave

--------------------------------------------------------------

g f# f
These are the days of your life
g f# f g
f
And don't let them pass you by

g f# f
Cause you never know when you might take your last breath

And so take a deep one tonight

d-b-g-b-a

--------------------------------------------------------------

d
Good friends we had along the way
b
And good friends that didn't make it to where we stand today
g b a
But we all know that they're looking down on us
d b
And even though their lives were cut short
g
We still remember the little thing that made us laugh about them
b a
And do you remember when and where did you meet them

----------------------------------------------------------------
d b
We are all one and the same
g
We are lovers and brothers and sisters
b a
And most of all friends
b g
Hold on to your memories
b g
Hold on to those little things
g
And I hope you receive as much as you get
d a
Cause when you die they're the only things
d g
That you can take to your grave

x d-b-g-b-a

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

d
And as we approach this final day
b
Where we all will go our separate ways
g
So go hug and kiss your friends
b a d
And say goodbye to them
