[Verse 1]
D
A dispatch from the icy mist,
Bm
two rosy cheeks that I once kissed.
A*
You'll see me go
D
My head's already out the door,
Bm
thinking a month out maybe more.
A* Em7
and few would follow
G
somewhere a violin bows and a rock a rolls

D Bm

D
Prison boxing got to me
Bm
the toughest fights you rarely see
A*
beyond the bars
D
and all the fists and gloves
Bm
a cruising waits with eyes swelled shut
A* Em7
and look at them
G
no one wins

[Chorus]
D (piano)
till my friends say
D
"how are you?
G D A Em7 A
It's been too many years."
A D G
And I say, with purity and candor,
D A Em7 A
"I've missed you."

[Verse 2]
D
So bring your poppies home to us
Bm
forget the roses, buttercup.
A*
There'll be no need.
D
We'll plant on robot row and
Bm
promise in the ground below,
A* Em7
That there will be more.
G
So swing wide the doors
G
and not yet bury that I'm ready for.

D
I won't press you in a book,
Bm
a flat brown shell of what you were.
A*
I'll never need another look.
D
Cause I'm not proud, I'm not ashamed,
Bm
I'm not at risk of forgetting your name.
A* Em7
You are an ending.
G
I found some peace in

[Chorus]
D(piano)
and when all my friends say
D
"how are you?
G D A Em7 A
It's been too many years."
A D G
And I say, with purity and candor,
D A Em7 A
"I've missed you."
