Cass McCombs

Love Thine Enemy

by Cass McCombs
Cass McCombs

Biography:

Cass McCombs (born in Concord, California in 1977) is an American singer-songwriter and performer.

An enigmatic folk nomad, McCombs is a quintessentially American artist; "he's quietly become one of (the country's) finest chroniclers of fringe characters, a writer of heart-rending love songs and psychedelic odes to the natural world, a teller of tall-tales with a sense of humor dry as desert wood, and that rare folksinger who actually sings about the folk.

A C A# A
I found this quote in a book and I thought of you
D C A# A
So I walked me out like a moth in the morning dew
A C A# A
And a million cigarettes later the quote reappeared
D C A# A
Now nothing about my love could be called insincere

A7 G7
Love thine enemy -- Love thine enemy
E7 A7
But hate their lack of sincerity
A
Love thine enemy

A C A# A
Every idiot thing you say speaks of Pain and Truth
D C A# A
Because of the beautiful way your tongue can seduce
A C A# A
What’s behind the mountain is a mystery
D C A# A
That’s why after the quote I added: Sincerity

A7 D7 G7
Love thine enemy -- Love thine enemy
E7 A7
But hate their lack of sincerity
A
Love thine enemy

A C A# A D C A# A

A C A# A D C A# A

A C A# A
He tried to come between us like a purple ghoul
D C A# A
Hypocrites especially practice the golden rule
A C A# A
I love what you say though sometimes it’s mean
D C A# A
Without earthworms how else would the soil keep clean?

A C A# A D C A# A

D7 G7
Love thine enemy
E7 A7
But hate their lack of sincerity
A
Love thine enemy

D7 G7
Love thine enemy -- Love thine enemy
E7 A7
But hate their lack of sincerity
A7
Love thine enemy -- I love - love - love my enemy
G7
Love thine enemy -- Love thine enemy
E7 A7
But hate their lack of sincerity
D7 E7 Am
Love thine enemy
