Passing of the days

written and performed by Carole King
from "Touch the sky", 1979
transcribed by Peter Eybert

E
May you travel bright and cheery
A E
the many roads ahead you'll have to blaze

gonna be hard times to make you weary
A B E
it's a part of the passing of the days.

A E
With all the people in the middle
B A E
selling things that self-destruct and make us bleed.
F#m G#m
One day it's all gonna fall down
A B
then you find out you're all you really need.

E
May you wander through the changes
A E
with the warmth of the sun behind the haze.

When your lifestyle quickly rearranges
A B E
may you follow the passing of the days.

A E
We trade our money for magic words
B A E
like Dumbo flyin' high in the nightly show
F#m G#m
you think you can't fly without them
A B
but someday when it happens you will know

E
May you travel bright and cheery
A E
the many roads ahead you'll have to blaze

gonna be hard times to make you weary
A B C#m B A
it's all part of the passing of the days,
F#m7 B E
may you follow the passing of the days.
