Cara Dillon - The Streets Of Derry

[INTRO:] G D G C D G D C D

[VERSE 1:]
N.C. D G C D
After the morning, there comes an evening
C G C D C
And after the evening, another day
N.C. D C G D G
And after a false love, there comes a true love
C G C D
I'd have you listen now to what I say

[VERSE 2:]
G D G C D
"I swear my love is the finest young man
C G C D C
As fair as any the sun shines on
D C G D G
But how to save him, I do not know it
C G C D
For he has got a sentence to be hung"

[VERSE 3:]
N.C. D G C D
As he was marching the streets of Derry
C G C D C
I own, he marched up, right manfully
D C G D G
Being much more like a commanding officer
C G C D
Than a man to die upon the gallows tree

[VERSE 4:]
N.C. D G C D
"What keeps my love, she's so long in coming
C G C D C
Oh, what detains her, so long from me
D Am C D G
Or does she think it a shame or scandal
C G C D
To see me die upon the gallows tree"

[VERSE 5:]
N.C. D G C D
He looked around and he saw her coming
C G C D C
And she was dressed all in woollen fine
D C G D G
The weary steed that my love was riding
C G C D
It flew more swiftly than the wind

[INSTRUMENTAL:] D G C D G D Am C D (2x)

[VERSE 6:]
N.C. D G C D
"Come down, come down from that cruel gallows
C G C D C
I've got your pardon from the king
D C G D G
And I'll let them see that they dare not hang you
C G C D
And I'll crown my love with a bunch of green"
