Canned Heat

My Crime

by Canned Heat
Canned Heat

Biography:

Canned Heat is a blues-rock/boogie band that formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group has been noted for its own interpretations of blues material as well as for efforts to promote the interest in this type of music and its original artists. It was launched by two blues enthusiasts, Alan Wilson (1943 – 1970) and Bob Hite (1943 – 1981), who took the name from Tommy Johnson's 1928 Canned Heat Blues, a song about an alcoholic who has desperately turned to drinking Sterno, generically called "canned heat".

Canned Heat

E Gx3 A (2x)

E Gx3 A
I went to Denver,
E Gx3 A
late last fall
E Gx3 A
I went to do my job,
E Gx3 A
yeah I didn't break any law
E Gx3 A
We worked a hipper place,
E Gx3 A
like many in our land
E Gx3 A
They couldn't bust the place,
A7 A
and so they got the band

D
`Cause the police in Denver

No, they don't want none of them
A A7
long hairs hanging around
E E7 D
And that's the reason why, woo,

they want to tear Canned
A A D A E E7
Heat's reputation down

E Gx3 A

E Gx3 A
You people in Denver,
E Gx3 A
will know what I mean
E Gx3 A
Yeah, the things I'm gonna tell ya,
E Gx3 A
yeah, you've all heard and seen
E Gx3 A
You remember when a cop on the beat,
E Gx3 A
used to rob and steal?
E Gx3 A
Today they're gone, but the others get it on,
A7 A
so you know just how I feel

D
`Cause the police in Denver

No, they don't want none of them
A A7
long hairs hanging around
E E7 D
And that's the reason why, woo,

they want to tear Canned
A A D A E E7
Heat's reputation down

Yeah, they try to tear it down, boy
They ain't gonna do it though

E Gx3 A (8x)

E Gx3 A

E Gx3 A
Just one more thing I wanna tell ya,
E Gx3 A
before I go
E Gx3 A
It's a shame the Man in Denver,
E Gx3 A
has to lie and mistreat people so
E Gx3 A
Now six months ain't no sentence,
E Gx3 A
one year ain't no time
E Gx3 A
When I hear from one to ten,
A7 A
it worries my troubled mind

D
`Cause the police in Denver

No, they don't want none of them
A A7
long hairs hanging around
E E7 D
And that's the reason why, woo,

they want to tear Canned
A
Heat's reputation down
