C
Nobody knows how blue I am

G7
Alone and broke in Birmingham

G7
Washin' dishes for a bite to eat

C
Sleepin' nights on a rundown street

C
My only shoes are paper thin

F
I’ve hawked my clothes everywhere I've been

C
I’m down to nothin' and here I am

G7 C
Alone and broke in Birmingham

C
Why did I leave a good home town

G7
To ride the freights and bum around

G7
The girl that's waiting is mighty sweet

C
But I can't wait till I'm on my feet

C
Down on my luck but I still got my pride

F
Can't find a job but oh how I've tried

C
Ain't got the price of a telegram

G7 C
Alone and broke in Birmingham

C
I've heard a thousand no's and they all hurt

G7
Who wants a man in a dirty shirt

G7
I can't keep going with this heavy load

C
Sometimes I think it's the end of the road

C
A man's got hope though he's not got a dime

F
He keeps a livin' just a breath at a time

C
I can't wait till I'm out of this jam

G7 C
Alone and broke in Birmingham

G7 C
Alone and broke in Birmingham
