Verse 1:
D G D/F# Em A
I'm not happy with myself these days
D G
I took the best parts of the script
D/F# Em A
and I made them all cliches
D
And this red bandanas
G D/F# Em A
surely gonna fade
D G
Even though it's the only
D/F# Em A
thing the fire didn't take

Chorus 1:
G A
Everybody says you'll grown a
D Bm
lot from this experience
G A D
Baby B comes in after a while
D7
becomes a president
G A
The best things get disguised
Bm A E/G#
sometimes but all I know is
G
I finally know the difference
A
between going back and going home

Post Chorus: D--G-D/F#-Em-A-- x2

Verse 2:
D G D/F# Em A
There's a lady on my block that has a kid
D G
As he swims in the above ground
D/F# Em A
pool she seals up the lid
D
And he thinks it's kinda
G D/F# Em A
normal that she hides
D G
All the cuts and all the bruises
D/F# Em A
She says it's warpaint for the eyes

Chorus 2:
G A
She tells her son she did the best
D Bm
she could as she buries Dad
G A D
Maybe he'll grow up to be a man
D7
or like his father did
G A
As they leave the driveway
Bm A E/G#
for the northern snow
G
They finally know the difference
A
between going back and going home

Post Chorus: D--G-D/F#-Em-A-- x2

Bridge: Rap part
D
Cut to a life
Being born in '69
G
Little class suburb
A
Everythings fine
D
Fondue parties
My mom and my dad
G
Drinks being drunk
A
And fights being had
D
I lost my virginity to a girl in my band
G A
She was four years older she made me a man
D
So addicted to sex
Every chance that I got
G
With whoever I wanted
A
Until I got caught
D
So I took my penicillin and I took my band
G A
To a town made of glitter girls and cocaine friends
D
Got handed the dream by the age of eighteen
G A
Saw more than most people that I know had ever seen
D
Played every bar drank till black and blue
G
Did the morning show bullshit
A
And went to China too
D
Where they left us to die without a ticket to flee
G A
In sighting the riot we were only 23
D
Packed it up started over just as fast as we can
G A
Selling tapes making merch in the back of a van
D
Living hand-to-mouth for the next five years
G (hold)
Took up drinking wine, gave up drinking beer
D
Signed another big deal with a devil in a dress
E A
A one hit wonder I think, describes it best
D
Decided to burn out, then to fade away
E A
Went back to the van the very next day
D
Picked it up made a living without any help
E A
Made amazing friends if I saw so myself
D
If living like this at thirty-eight is a bore
E(hold)
Then come on God please give me thirty-eight more

Chorus 3:
G A D
And everybody know's I've seen a lot
Bm
Yea, I'm experienced
G A D
Makes you feel so old after a while
D7
Just like our last president
G A Bm A E/G#
Everytime I come back in this town I know
G A(Hold)
I finally know the difference between
going back and going home
Yea back and going home I do
