Lucky Strike Cigarettes
by Brian Johannesen

G D C
Well I used to smoke Turkish Gold cigarettes,
G D Em
I was only sixteen.
G D C
Sucked ‘em down like soda pop and Ritalin,
G D Em C G
Driving 'round thinking we were kings of the punk scene.

G D C
I had a girl and her name was Evelyn,
G D Em
Short little hairdo.
G D C
Come over every weekend on Saturday,
G D Em C G
Never had a clue the kind of mess I was into.

G D C
Yeah, I used to like Lucky Strike cigarettes,
G D Em
Coming up on eighteen.
G D C
Sold my guitar, I was sick of it,
G D Em C G
Never won the heart of a beautiful prom queen.

G D C
And I was sitting on a bridge on the overpass,
G D Em
With a bottle of Jim Beam.
G D C
Talking how that feeling could never last,
G D Em C G
Moving on baby, is part of the in-between.

[Bridge]
C G
I bought the patch.
C D
Fought it off trying to make it last.
C G
But it never did work,
C G C G
I just switched to a different brand.

G D C
So I’m sitting with a Parliament cigarette,
G D Em
Somewhere in my twenties.
G D C
Thinking bout a bottle of Templeton,
G D Em C G
Talking bout nothing on a Tennessee porch swing.

G D C
Got a pack of 27s in the glove box,
G D Em
Waiting on a hard rain.
G D C
Racing up that interstate blacktop,
G D Em C G
South Dakota thunder is a’ calling out my name.
G D Em C G
Oh, South Dakota thunder is calling out my name.
