Brett Eldredge

One Mississippi

by Brett Eldredge
Brett Eldredge

Biography:

Some life-changing moments are only apparent in retrospect. Brett Eldredge recognized his as it was happening.

The Paris, IL, native was visiting Nashville for the first time early in his sophomore year at Chicago's Elmhurst College. He was at the Station Inn, an historic bluegrass/country venue where many of the greats of both worlds have played. His cousin Terry, a veteran of Dolly Parton's band and now a member of the Grascals, was playing with a band called the Sidemen, and a mesmerized Brett was in the crowd.

Intro.: |(G)(D/F#)|(Em) |

(G)One Mississippi, (D/F#)two Mississippi, (Em)counting down the seconds
(G)Standing in the wreckage of (C)love on a (Cm)cold grey Jackson (G)dawn (D)
Oh, I (G)just can't watch this, (D/F#)sure can't stop this, (Em)I keep waiting,
Your (G)tail lights are fading, (C)I see (Cm)you're already (G)gone (D)
I'm half of who I (C)used to be, (D) one Missis-(G)sippi (D/F#) (C)

(G)Lipstick on the (D/F#)coffee cup, (Em)I know I should (G)wash it up
But maybe (C)I'll just (Cm)wait here for a little while (G) (D)
I (G)run my fingers a-(D/F#)round the top (Em)where your lips were I just stop
'Cause (C)I, I can (Cm)almost see your (G) smile (D)

And it's (G)One Mississippi, (D/F#)two Mississippi, (Em)counting down the seconds
(G)Standing in the wreckage of (C)love on a (Cm)cold grey Jackson (G)dawn

And (C)I know everybody's got their (G)demons
Everybody's got their (Am)reasons, why they leave when they (G)run
Oh, but (C)baby I could have helped you (Em)through it
You built a (D)wall and I couldn't get (Am)to it
Now I'm waiting for the (F)rain, and the pain (D) to come, yeah

And it's (G)one Mississippi, (D/F#)two Mississippi, (Em)counting down the seconds
(G)Standing in the wreckage (C) of love on a (Cm)cold grey Jackson (G)dawn (D)
Oh, I (G)just can't watch this, (D/F#)sure can't stop this, (Em)I keep waiting
Your (G)tail lights are fading, (C)I see (Cm)your already gone (G) (D)
I'm half of who I (C) used to be, --- (D) --- one --- Mississippi |(G)(D/F#)|(Em)

(Tag)
