Intro
C G Am Em F

Verse 1

C G
She wrote to me and said in a letter

Am F
That she wanted to see if she could do better

C G
She thought that she could if only I’d let her

Am F
And that’s where she stood for worse or for better

G C
And I couldn’t argue cause deep down I knew

Dm G7
As much as it pained me well I felt it too

Chorus

C Am
And oh my love

Em
We’ve got to be more careful

Bb
In the future

C Am
And oh how much

Em
It helps to talk about it

Bb
Let it out

Verse 2

C G
Yesterday I found a picture of me

Am F
When I was a baby and I was to be

C G
A man with no home adrift in the sea

Am F
No plan of his own so careless and free

G C
And it makes me sad but then deep down I know

Dm G7
That all is not lost and there’s still room to grow

Chorus

C Am
And oh my love

Em
We’ve got to be more careful

Bb
In the future

C Am
And oh how much

Em
It helps to talk about it

Bb
Get it out

Solo

C G Am Em F

Verse 3

C G
We could be lovers or we could be friends

Am F
Smother each other but that’s how it ends

C G
Could be the wrong words that mean everything

Am F
Like two lonely songbirds that don’t wanna sing

G C
And it’s hard to swallow but deep down inside

Dm G7
I know that it’s true and it can’t be denied

Chorus

C Am
Oh my love

Em
We’ve got to be more careful

Bb
In the future

C Am
And oh how much

Em
It helps to talk about it

Bb
Let it out

C Am
And I’m so proud of

Em
The way we face the truth

Bb
About our future

C Am
And so my love

Em
What will we do without it?

Bb
Do without it?

Fade Out

C G Am Em F
