[Verse]
Em G D Am C
Well I've been hell hounded by a pack of wild lies
Em G D Am C
I've been dumbfounded by the fools you idolize
Am G
Spellbound by boredom too blind to realize
D
I forgot to tell the truth, forgot to act with proof
Am C
Or look into your eyes

[Chorus]
G Am
On the straight and narrow
C D G
Be aware of which side you may fall
Am C
Its so hard to walk that line
D G
When you're just learnin' (to crawl)

[Verse]
Em G D
Now a desperate wind blows through me
Am C
I'm a torn up window screen
Em G D
You handed me your blanket, it's full of holes
Am C
To match your promises unseen
Em
That same wind that shakes your bonnet
G
Rattles your lushest green
D
And it blows into the head of every redneck son
Am C
With a bitterness unseen

[Bridge]
Em C Am D Em
No you can't leave it, you don't love it
C Am D
You don't even try to rise above it

[Chorus] (x3)
Em G D Am C
Now I've been an honest outlaw, and a preacher man thievin'
Em G D Am C
A well contented beggar, And a millionaire grieving
Em
I have taken many trains in this life
G
That have stopped a little east of even
D
And that's an obvious excuse to throw your hands up and refuse
Am C
To have something to believe in
