Bonnie Raitt

You Got To Know How

by Bonnie Raitt
Bonnie Raitt

Biography:

Bonnie Raitt, (born November 8, 1949) is an American blues and R&B singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was born in Burbank, California, the daughter of Broadway musical star John Raitt.

Raitt began playing guitar at an early age, something not a lot of her high school girlfriends did. "I had played a little at school and at camp," she later recalled in a July 2002 interview. "My parents would drag me out to perform for my family, like all parents do, but it was a hobby—nothing more.

NOTES
The song is a 16 bar blues. The first verse is different from the other verses and
there is a bridge. The second, third and final verses are the same.
I play this with bar chords and a lazy vamp style.

I listed the chords two ways. The first is broken down by measures, so you
can count out the changes if you want. | F | is one measure (4 beats) of "F".

The second ways below that is the chords above the lyrics.

You can make me do what you wanna do
C7
But you got to know how,

You can make me cry, you can make me sigh,
F
But you got to know how,
Bb
You can make me do like this, you can make me do like that,
G7 C7
Woh, baby, but you got to know how.

(Verse)
F
Once a pal of mine stole a guy of mine,
C7
But I got him back, now,

It's the same old song, she couldn't keep him long,
F
'Cause she didn't know how.

Well, I love my man, I make him holler,
A7 Bb7
Woh, my,
G7 C7 F
Yessir, I really know how.

(Verse)
F
Technique ain't tough, if you care enough,
C7
You can learn to know how,

I might drop a hint how to strike my flint
F
If you yearn to know how,

Well, don't tell me about the life you led,
A7 Bb7
Don't try to drink me into bed,
G7 C7 F
No, baby, no, that ain't the way how.

(Bridge)
Bb
You got to take your time, you know it ain't no crime
F
If it lasts all night.
G7
I think you'll be ideal when you begin to feel
C7
That you're doin' right.
F
When you love me right, you hear me holler,
A7 Bb7
Woh, my,
G7 C7 F
Yessir, when you really know how.

(Break)
| F | F | C7 | C7 | C7 | C7 | F | F |

| F | F | A7 | Bb7 | G7 | C7 | F | F |

(Verse)
F
And if you stay with me, who knows how it will be
C7
When we finally know how,

We'll get a house in town, no need to move around
F
When we really know how,

Well, there's tricks that I don't even know,
A7 Bb7
Ones we'll make up as we go.
G7 C7 F
Woh, mister, when we really know how.
G7 C7 F
Yes, mister, when we really know how.
