[Verse 1]
G D Am C G C G
Come my, little son, and I will tell you what to do;
G G Am Em C G C
Undress yourself, get into bed, and a tale I'll tell to you.
G G Am Em C G G Am Em C
It'?s all about your daddy son, He's a man you seldome see,
G D Am C
For he'?s had to roam far away from home,
G C G
Far away from you and me.

[Chorus]
G G Am Em C G
But remember lad, he's still your dad
G Am Em C
Though he'?s workin'? fa--r a--way
G D Am C
In the cold and heat, forty hours a week
G C G
On England'?s motorway.

[Verse 2]
G D Am C G C G
Sure we'd like to have him here; for sure it would be fine
G G Am Em C G C
To have him li---ving here at home and be with you all the time;
G G Am Em C G G Am Em C
But beggars can'?t be choosers, and we'll have to bear the load,
G D Am C
For we need the money your daddy earns
G C G
A-workin' on the road.

[Chorus]
G G Am Em C G
But remember lad, he's still your dad
G Am Em C
Though he'?s workin'? fa--r a--way
G D Am C
In the cold and heat, forty hours a week
G C G
On England'?s motorway.

[Verse 3]
G D Am C G C G
When you fall and cut yourself and get a-feelin' bad
G G Am Em C G C
There isn'?t a---ny use to go a-runnin'? to your dad,
G G Am Em C G G Am Em C
For the only time since you were born that he's had to spend with you,
G D Am C
He was out on the line makin'? his time;
G C G
He was workin'? on a crew.

[Chorus]
G G Am Em C G
But remember lad, he's still your dad
G Am Em C
Though he'?s workin'? fa--r a--way
G D Am C
In the cold and heat, forty hours a week
G C G
On England'?s motorway.
