G Em x2

G Em
It is a narrowing. It is a shrinking and there’s a danger of overthinking
G Em
It was everybody getting tired of drinking every night
D C
There was a little left to believe in, which is how I really knew I should be leaving

G Em
I should be leaving… now
G Em
I should be leaving

G Em
We were clever then. We’d talk forever then, and the night of our invention it would never end
G Em
It was a parting, and there was sorrow, it was impossible to picture a tomorrow
D C
It was necessity and it was instinct and the pattern underneath it kept repeating
D C
kept repeating, kept repeating, which is how I really knew I should be leaving

G Em
I should be leaving… now
G Em
I should be leaving

Am C G Em
Oh and it was everything. Oh and it was just a way to keep from waking up alone
G Em
Which is why I had to go
D C
Which is why I should be leaving
G Em G Em
Which is why I had to go

G Em
Am I belaboring? Am I delivering? Am I offering you a blanket, and you’re shivering?
G Em
Is it a play? Without the passion? Is it an endless repetition of an action?
D C
If there’s a christening, or a crisis, we can get together then and say how nice it is
D C
Is it torment? Well it depends, which is how I really knew I should be leaving

G Em
I should be leaving… now
G Em
I should be leaving

Am C G Em
Oh and it was everything. Oh and it was just a way to keep from waking up alone
G Em
Which is why I had to go
G Em
Which is why I should be leaving
G Em G
Which is why I had to go which you know
