Bing Crosby

If I Had A Talking Picture Of You

by Bing Crosby
Bing Crosby

Biography:

Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby Jr. (kr?zbi/; May 3, 1903 – October 14, 1977) was an American singer, comedian and actor. The first multimedia star, Crosby was a leader in record sales, radio ratings, and motion picture grosses from 1931 to 1954. His early career coincided with recording innovations that allowed him to develop an intimate singing style that influenced many male singers who followed him, including Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Dick Haymes, and Dean Martin.

CHORUS CHORD SHAPES

e|-0--3--1--0--1--2--3--0--0--|
B|-1--0--0--2--3--1--0--0--1--|

There's a nice little 2 bar Am run-down I use on the penultimate line of each chorus:

|0-0-|0-0-| You keep an ordinary Am chord in place
|1-1-|1-1-|
|2-2-|2-2-| and you change the bass note from A to G to F# to F
|2-2-|2-2-|
|0-x-|x---| I use my little finger for the G note and my thumb for the F# and F
|x-3-|2-1-|

[VERSE 1]
Dm9 G6 C
I talk to your photograph each day
Dm9 G6 A7
You should hear the lovely things I say
F9 Fm Cmaj7
But I thought how happy I would be
Am D G G+
If your photograph could talk to me.

[CHORUS]
C G
If I had a talking picture of you,
G7 C
I would run it every time I felt blue.
A7 Dm
I would sit there in the gloom of my lonely little room
D9 G G+
And applaud each time you whispered, "I love you; love you."
C G
On the screen the moment you came in view
G7 E
We would talk the whole thing over, we two.
Am
I would give ten shows a day, and a midnight matinée,
Dm G7 C
If I had a talking picture of you.

[VERSE 2]
Dm9 G6 C
All I have to keep me company
Dm9 G6 A7
Is the photograph you gave to me
F9 Fm Cmaj7
I propose a thousand plans but oh
Am D G
It don't answer 'Yes' or even 'No'
