by Billie Jo Spears
Billie Jo Spears

Biography:

Billie Jo Spears (born January 14, 1937 in Beaumont, Texas as Billie Jean Spears, died December 14, 2011 in VIdor, Texas) was a country music singer who was particularly popular in the 1970s.

Spears moved from Texas to Nashville in 1964. She earned a Capitol Records contract in 1968. Her first hit was 1969's "Mr. Walker, It's All Over."

Spears won country fans over with her tough, bluesy style; however, it was not until 1975's "Blanket on the Ground" that she broke through to major stardom.

Billie Jo Spears - '57 Chevrolet Lyrics
'57 Chevrolet:Billie Jo Spears.
#16 on BB Hot Country on CAPITOL Records
in 1978.

INTRO: A G D E

#1.
A
Come and look at this old faded photograph.
D E A
Honey, tell me what it brings to mind?
A
It's a picture of that '57 Chevrolet.
D E A
I wish that we could ride it one more time.

#2.
A
I still get excited when I think about,
D E A
the drive-in picture shows you took me to.
A E A
But I don't recall a lot about the movie stars,
D E A
mostly that old Chevrolet and you.

CHORUS:
D E A
They don't make cars like they used to.
D E A
I wish we still had it today.
D E A
The love we first tasted, the good love we're
D A D E A
still living..we owe it to that old '5-7 Chevrolet.

INTERLUDE: G D E

#3.
A
Remember when we used to park it in the lane, and
D E A
listen to the country radi-o?
A
We'd hold on to each other while the singer sang.
D E A
And we'd stay like that 'til it was time to go.

#4.
A
Now, it makes me sad to think the good old days

are gone.
D E A
Although our love is still as strong today.
A
But the world would have a lot more lovers hanging on,
D E A
if they still made '5-7 Chevrolets.

CHORUS:
D E A
They don't make cars like they used to.
D E A
I wish we still had it today.
D E A
The love we first tasted, the good love we're
D A D E A
still living..we owe it to that old '5-7 Chevrolet.

OUTRO:
A D E A
We owe it to that old '57 Chevrolet.
A D E A
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
D E A
doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
A D E A
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
D E A
doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo..(Fade.)
