Big Country

Fragile Thing

by Big Country
Big Country

Biography:

Big Country were a new wave/alternative rock band which formed in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1981. The band consisted of Stuart Adamson (vocals, guitar), Bruce Watson (guitar, vocals), Tony Butler (bass) and Mark Brzezicki (drums). Adamson was a former member of the Scottish punk band The Skids. The band was best known for using the device known as the "e-bow" to alter their guitars to sound like bagpipes. Despite having 15 Top 40 hits in the UK, the band has remained a one hit wonder in the US with their third single "In A Big Country".

Verse 1:
Am C Am
Thank you mam for asking, yes I am on my own
Am C Am
I guess it’s kind of obvious, I am eating here alone
Am C Am
I'm grateful for the company, tired of talking to myself
Am C Am
Don't you look into my eyes, for you might see someone else

Chorus:
C G F Am
Love is a small and fragile thing
C G Am
I spent a lot of cold nights missing you
C G F Am
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
C G Am
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you

Bridge:
Am C Am

Verse 2:
Am C Am
I've been to see a movie, about a man who saved the world,
Am C Am
Had the same old happy ending, where the hero gets the girl
Am C Am
And all I ever wanted was to be that hero too
Am C Am
Then I might still be with her instead of here with you

Chorus:
C G F Am
Love is a small and fragile thing
C G Am
I spent a lot of cold nights missing you
C G F Am
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
C G Am
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you

Verse 3:
Am C Am
Thank you for your time now, I'm gonna go and walk
Am C Am
Might as well do that, because I am running out of talk
Am C Am
I could walk a thousand miles tonight, and never find my place
Am C Am
At least until it gets too light to hide my tearful face

Chorus:
C G F Am
Love is a small and fragile thing
C G Am
I spent a lot of cold nights missing you
C G F Am
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
C G Am
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
C G Am
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you

Bridge:
(Single strums)
Am C Am

Verse 4:
(Single strums)
Am C Am
There's a low ballet on the highway, brief faces in the light
Am C Am
I catch them for a second, heading somewhere in the night
(Back to normal strumming)
Am C Am
We have no connection, but the darkness and the road
Am C Am
I better find a place tonight, I better call it home

Chorus:
C G F Am
Love is a small and fragile thing
C G Am
I spent a lot of cold nights missing you
C G F Am
Keep it in your hands or let it take wing
C G Am
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you
C G Am
I spend a lot of cold nights missing you

Outro:
Am C Am
Am C (Single strum) Am
