Intro: G

Verse 1:
G
Tonight I need the bright lights
Cadd9
still got her face on my mind.
G
Heading where the talk is cheap and I'm
Cadd9
dressed to a "t"
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
so they won't notice me

Verse 2:
G
It's warm for October
Cadd9
and I've got the windows down.
G
The skyline whispers
Cadd9 Em7 Dsus Cadd9
her promises, the same lie each night.

Pre-Chorus:
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
But I force myself to believe...

Chorus:
G Dsus Cadd9
And I swore it'd be different but how could it be?
G Dsus Cadd9
What I came to escape is right here inside of me.

Verse 3:
G
The city's a desert
Cadd9
with photographic stars.
G
Each pretty face is
Cadd9 Em7 Dsus Cadd9
just a mirage, and my mouth's full of sand again.

Pre-Chorus2:
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
But I force myself to believe,
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
across the river's the cure for what's sick inside of me.

Chorus:
G Dsus Cadd9
And I swore it'd be different but how could it be?
G Dsus Cadd9
What I came to escape is right here inside of me.
G Dsus Cadd9
And I swore it'd be different but how could it be?
G Dsus Cadd9
What I came to escape is right here inside of me.

Bridge: Dsus Cadd9 Em7 G Dsus Cadd9 Em7 G

Dsus Cadd9 Em7
I look in the mirror past the buildings,
G
the sky's getting light.
Dsus Cadd9 Em7
Another piece of my innocence is the admission
G
I paid there tonight.
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
Slow down past her exit though it makes me sick, and I
Em7 Dsus
imagine her saying,
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
"You're better than this
Em7 Dsus Cadd9
you're better than this."

Chorus:
G Dsus Cadd9
And I swore it'd be different but how could it be?
G Dsus Cadd9
What I came to escape is right here inside of me.
G Dsus Cadd9
And I swore it'd be different but how could it be?
G Dsus Cadd9 Em7 Dsus
What I came to escape is right here inside of me.
Cadd9
Whoa-Whoa
G Em7 Dsus Cadd9
And I swore it'd be different
