[INTRO]
Am C Em

[VERSE]
Em G
The Yankee letter said that they'd be comin' any day
Am C
And if we planned on gettin' out alive we best be on our way
Em G
Our tattered grey was torn between if we should run or fight
Am C B7
But our Southern pride swelled up inside as we dug in for the night

G D
Then we heard a rider callin', "They're comin' down the road!"
Em C
And the firey flash of twenty-pounders started to explode
G G G/F# Em
Tried our best to stop them but our efforts were in vain
C G
In the distance you could hear the sound of Dixie's last refrain

[CHORUS]
G G/F# Em
They're burnin' Georgia down
C G
Those devils dressed in blue
G G/F# Em
They took the higher ground
C G
Dying's all we can do
C
Atlanta's bound to fall
Em
Smell the smoke and the cinder
Am
They're burnin' Georgia down
C G
But we never will surrender

[INSTRUMENTAL CHORUS]
G G/F# Em C G G/F# Em C G C Em Am C Em

[VERSE]
Em G
Sherman left Atlanta leading sixty thousand of his best
Am C
Spreading the destruction over 50 miles abreast
Em G
Marching to the sea, leavin' nothing in their path
Am C B7
Factories, farms, and churches; nothing spared their wrath

G D
Oh Christmas Day in '64, they cut off our supplies
Em C
And then they offered Mr. Lincoln up Savannah as a prize
G G G/F# Em
And though our lines are broken; we fought on till the end
C G
And pray someday we'll find a way to Dixie once again

[CHORUS]
G G/F# Em
They're burnin' Georgia down
C G
Those devils dressed in blue
G G/F# Em
They took the higher ground
C G
Dying's all we can do
C
Atlanta's bound to fall
Em
Smell the smoke and the cinder
Am
They're burnin' Georgia down
C G
But we never will surrender
Am
They're burnin' Georgia down
C Em
But we never will surrender
