Badfinger

Name Of The Game

by Badfinger
Badfinger

Biography:

Badfinger was a pop/rock (or "power pop") band that orginated in mid-60s pop bands around Swansea, Wales. Adopting the name Badfinger in 1969, the band was touted as the 'heir apparent' to The Beatles, in part because of their close working relationship with the "Fab Four." Badfinger's meteoric rise and demise (marked by the suicides of founder-member and leader Peter Ham on 24 April 1975, and later of band-member Tom Evans on November 19, 1983) remains a cautionary tale for the rock music industry.

A Bm F#m C#m
I saw the railway master and I looked him in the eye
D A G D
I said, "Would you go much faster if you thought that you would die?"
A Bm F#m C#m
He said, "Not me, sir, I could not care, in fact I would not try
D A G D
For protest would not take me far, it's different, me not being a star."
B7 G D A
I lock my feelings in a jar until another day

A Bm F#m C#m
Oh, comfort me, dear brother, won't you tell me what you know
D A G D
For somewhere in this painful world is a place where I can go
A Bm F#m C#m
Oh, long-awaiting mother, is it time to make a show
D A G D
And take your babies to your breast, no, we never passed the test
B7 G D A
And all our sins should be confessed before we carry on

E Bm G D A
Oh, don't refuse me, if you choose me, you'll follow my shame
E Bm G D A
No, don't confuse me, for I know it's the name of the game

A Bm F#m C#m
I got up off my pillow and I looked up at the sun
D A G D
I said, "You can see quite clearly, now, the things that we have done
A Bm F#m C#m
We burned your sacred willow and our battles we have won
D A G D
But did we get so very far? It's different, me not being a star."
B7 G D A
I lock my feelings in a jar until we go away

E Bm G D A
Oh, don't refuse me, if you choose me, you'll follow my shame
E Bm G D A
No, don't confuse me, for I know it's the name of the game

E Bm G D A
