[Intro]
D/F# C G Em D/F# G

[Verse]
C G D/F# G
He had a southern drawl like a redbone hound
C G D/F# G
And every song he sang was my favorite sound
C G D/F# Em
He'd be the last one off if the ship went down
C G D/F# G
The kind of man it feels good to be a-round
C G D/F# G
The kind of man it feels good to be a-round

[Verse]
C G D/F# G
He had hair as white as a cotton field
C G D/F# G
He could spin you a story like a wagon wheel
C G D/F# Em
Never went nowhere without a rod and reel
C G D/F# G
Lord I miss that man and I always will
C G D/F# G
I miss that man and I always will

[Chorus]
C G
He'd see through a lie like an old screen door
Em D G
He taught me how to hunt, how to love the lord
C Em
He car-ried a bi-ble and for-ty-four
C G D/F# G
And they just don't make 'em like that no more

[Interlude]
C G D/F# G

[Verse]
C G D/F# G
He said take what you got and do the best you can
C G D/F# G
The best thing you'll ever own is a piece of land
C G D/F# Em
Ya'll he knew his like the back of his hand
C G D/F# G
He was somethin' else, my old man
C G D/F# G
He was somethin' else, my old man

[Chorus]
C G
He'd see through a lie like an old screen door
Em D G
He taught me how to hunt, how to love the lord
C Em
He car-ried a bi-ble and for-ty-four
C G D/F# G
And they just don't make 'em like that no more

[Verse]
C G D/F# G
I saw him strum this thing every chance he could
C G D/F# G
And he left it to me like he said he would
C G D/F# Em
And if you ask me why it sounds so good
C G D/F# G
It's 'cause I'm holdin' more than strings and wood
C G D/F# G
I'm holdin' more than strings and wood

[Chorus]
C G
He'd see through a lie like an old screen door
Em D G
He taught me how to hunt, how to love the lord
C Em
He car-ried a bi-ble and for-ty-four
C G D/F# G
And they just don't make 'em like that no more
C G D/F# G
They just don't make 'em like that no more

[Outro]
D/F# C G Em D/F# G
