Andrew Duhon

The Moorings

by Andrew Duhon
Andrew Duhon

Biography:

Andrew Duhon is an American singer-songwriter from New Orleans.

Duhon began his writing in highschool as a result of his fascination with the works of Emerson and Thoreau as well as poets Walt Whitman and Robert Frost. During the summer of '02 Duhon worked and lived at an old retreat house on the outskirts of the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was then that he fell in love with the character of the city. A year later hurricane Katrina left the city and his former French Quarter home crippled.

[Verse 1]
D G
Oh my darling my dear I have reason to fear
D G D
That you know not the man you’re adoring
G D A Bm
From the dark salty sea I found refuge in thee
D A D
But I’m soon to be loosening my moorings

[Verse 2]
D G D
Oh my darling my dear I have reason to fear
G D
That you know not the man you’re adoring
G D A
From the dark salty sea I found refuge in thee
D A D
But I’m soon to be loosening my moorings

[Chorus]
G D
And I’ll hold on hope when I let you go
A Bm
Though you loved me well, I set out alone
G
And I will trust these winds
D
That they will not fail
A
Open up my heart
D
Let it be my sail

[Post-Chorus]
D A D

[Verse 3]
D G D
And I pray when I’m gone you don’t feel I done you wrong
G D
But if so I will seek my repentance
G D A
A convicted fool I am chained to the pen in my hand
D A D
And my darling I must serve this sentence

[Chorus]
G D
And I’ll hold on hope when I let you go
A Bm
Though you loved me well, I set out alone
G
And I will trust these winds
D
That they will not fail
A
Open up my heart
D
Let it be my sail

[Post-Chorus]
D A D

[Verse 4]
D G D
For the day it will come when my traveling is done
G D
And I’ll search for a light on the shoreline
G D A
Though I know your harbor slips hold vessels worthier than me
D A D
If there’s room would you cast to me your line

[Chorus]
G D
And I’ll hold on hope when I let you go
A Bm
Though you loved me well, I set out alone
G
And I will trust these winds
D
That they will not fail
A
Open up my heart
Bm
Let it be my sail
G A
Open up my heart
D
Let it be my sail

[Outro]
D A D
