Alabama 3

Too Sick To Pray

by Alabama 3
Alabama 3

Biography:

Alabama 3 are a band originating from Brixton, England, their music incorporates elements of country, acid house, blues and gospel.

Named for the Alabama 2, a legal case in the American deep South during the 1930s, in which two black men were hanged for allegedly raping a white woman. The name is also a nod to other victims of injustice like the Birmingham 6 and Guildford 4. In the United States, they are known as A3, after they were sued by the legendary country outfit Alabama.

Hank Williams sings a lovesick blues
Bm
Winter's walking up the avenue
Em G
But I ain't seen the sunshine since the 6th o' June
A
But I tell ya this

CHORUS:
Bm
Don't call the doctor
Em
I'm gonna get better
Bm
Don't run for the priest
Em Bm
I'm gonna find some faith
Em
Just because I burned my Bible baby
G A
It don't mean I'm too sick to pray

VERSE 2:
Bm Em
I'm in a crowded place yeah
Bm Em
But I can't recognise a single face
Bm
And they say the thrill is in the chase
Em G
Well I ain't got the legs I ain't got the legs to run that race
A
But I tell ya this

CHORUS:
Bm
Don't call the doctor
Em
I'm gonna get better

BRIDGE:
Bm
Better burn a candle bright
Em
Raise up some ghosts tonight

Bm
They say I made my money messing up young minds
Em
stupped the congregation and I left em all cryin
Bm
In the rain, yeah left em with their pain
Em
Exit your boy with his ill-gotten gains
Bm
Well the blood runs deep and the blood runs cold
Em Bm
As the knife lifts so another sucker is born

Thrown into this world alone
Em G
Doctor came a'knockin wasn't nobody home

A
Ease the pain

CHORUS:
Bm
Don't call the doctor
Em
I'm gonna get better
Bm
Don't run for the priest
Em Bm
I'm gonna find some faith
Em
Just because I burned my Bible baby
G A
It don't mean I'm too sick to pray

Bm
Don't call the doctor
