Tim Buckley

Biography:

Timothy Charles Buckley III (February 14, 1947 – June 29, 1975) was an experimental vocalist and performer who incorporated jazz, psychedelia, funk, soul, and avant-garde rock, in a short career spanning the late 1960s and early 1970s, ending with his death at age 28 from an alcohol-heroin overdose.

Buckley often regarded his tenor voice as an instrument, a talent most noticeable on his albums Happy Sad, Lorca, and Starsailor. His first marriage was to Mary Guibert, with whom he had a child, musician Jeff Buckley.

Intro:

G# C#maj7 x2

Verse 1:

G# C#maj7
I lit my purest candle close to my

window hoping it would catch the eye

G# C#maj7
of any vagabond who passed it by

A#m C# G#
and I waited in my fleeting house

Verse 2:

G# C#maj7
Before he came I felt him drawing near

G# C#maj7
as he neared I felt the ancient fear

G# C#maj7
that he had come to wound my door and jeer

A#m C# G#
and I waited in my fleeting house

Chorus 1:

D# C# Fm
Tell me stories I called to the hobo

D# C# Fm
stories of cold I smiled at the hobo

D# C# Fm
stories of old I knelt to the hobo

A#m C# G#
and he stood before me in my fleeting house

Verse 3:

G# C#maj7
No said the hobo no more tales of time

G# C#maj7
don't ask me now to wash away the grime

G# C#maj7
I can't come in 'cause it's too high a climb

A#m C# G#
and he walked away from my fleeting house

Chorus 2:

D# C# Fm C#maj7
Then you be damned I screamed to the hobo

D# C# Fm C#maj7
leave me alone I wept to the hobo

D# C# Fm C#maj7
turn into stone I knelt to the hobo

A#m C# G#
and he walked away from my fleeting house

Ending:

D# C# Fm C#maj7
