The Microphones

I Felt Your Shape

by The Microphones
The Microphones

Biography:

The Microphones is the name of a project that Anacortes, WA's Phil Elverum has headed since the late 90s. Its sound is best described as lo-fi "fuzz folk," ranging from drum-crashing, bass-thrashing sonic freakouts, strummy classical guitar love songs, angelic vocal choirs, and almost-whispered vocals over harmoniums and bell kits. F Am
I thought I felt your shape but I was wrong
Dm G
Really all I felt was falsely strong
F Am
I held on tight and closed my eyes
Dm G
It was dumb I had no sense of your size

Am G
It was dumb to hold so tight
F C
La da da But last night

F Am
On your birthday in the kitchen
Dm G
My grip was loose my eyes were open
Am F
I felt your shape and heard you breathing
Dm G
I felt the rise and fall of your chest

Am G
I felt your fall your winter snows
F C
Your gusty blows your lava flows
Am G
I felt it all your starry night
F C
Your lack of light with limp arms
Am
I could feel most of you

Dm G
I hung around your neck independently
F Am
And my loss was overwhelmed
Dm G
By this new depth I don't think I've ever felt

Am F
But I don't know my nights are cold
Am G
I remember warmth I would have sworn
F
I wasn't alone
