B Dbm
You never saw me leave
E B
Never heard

I was too proud
Abm
to show you my tears I was seventeen

Dbm
The postcards were few
E B
I didn't have the words to tell you
A
I was doing well but it was hard
B
Not having you

F#m
Someday you will
B
understand my reason for leaving
F#m B
Someday you will be seventeen

[Refrain]

Dbm E
And the road that I will go
B A
Through the streets of America
Dbm E
From its furthest northern shores
B
To its southern seas
Dbm E
And one day I'll return
B A
To the green fields of Ireland
Dbm
Where my Irish bonny lass
E B
Who waits for me

[Verse 2]

Dbm
I can picture now
B
As the evening sun comes to praise you
A Ab
A golden hue of light reflects on your face
Dbm
How sweet is your smile
B
I remember it well
A
Though I'm here on foreign site
B
My thoughts are with you

[Refrain]

Dbm E
And the road that I will go
B A
Through the streets of America
Dbm E
From its furthest northern shores
B
To its southern seas
Dbm E
And one day I'll return
B A
To the green fields of Ireland
Dbm
Where my Irish bonny lass
E B
Who waits for me

[Outro]

Dbm
Say you’ll wait for me
