Hold On With My Open Hands

by William Fitzsimmons
William Fitzsimmons

Biography:

William Fitzsimmons (born 1978) is an American singer-songwriter, based in Illinois/. He is perhaps best-known for his songs "Passion Play" and "Please Don't Go", which aired during pivotal scenes in the TV medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

Fitzsimmons was raised in the outskirts of the steel city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the youngest child of two blind parents. Due to the family's inability to communicate through normal visual means, Fitzsimmons' childhood home was filled with a myriad of sounds to replace what eyes could not see.

This song has many layers, but the guitar part repeats the entire song

Capo 2 (chords are relative to capo)

G D G C
If I had known you better I could probably get my money back
G D G C
From that old preacher and his organist who said she knew my dad

G - D - G -C (x2) ((I like to finger pick these instrumental parts and the chorus))

G D G C
When we were younger and you promised me that you would where my ring
G D G C
But you where 14 years behind the time when you can mean such things

G D G C
But I will hold on with my open hands
G D G C
But I will hold on with my open hands

G-D-G-C (x2)

G D G C
And I suppose I should decide what I can do with all your clothes
G D G C
And closets full of all the places you and I will never go

G D G D
Is it misguided that I can recall the day you left my bed
G D G C
And asked your mom and dad if maybe you could stay with them instead

G D G C
But I will hold on with my open hands
G D G C
But I will hold on with my open hands

Repeat the chord progression until end
