D Cadd9 G
Oh Mother are you sleepin'?
D Cadd9 G
Did you pray for me tonight?
D Cadd9 G
Cause I'm alone here on this front line
D Cadd9 G
Hoping I might get back home alive.
D Cadd9 G
I see the bullets flyin',
D Cadd9 G
And I feel the bombs explode.
D Cadd9 G
I close my eyes and pull this trigger
D Cadd9 G
And kill these people I don't even know.

Chorus playing this:

e|-----------------------|
B|--1--0-------1--0------|
G|--------2----------2---|
D|-----------------------|
A|-----------------------|
E|-----------------------|

D Cadd9 G
And Mother, please forgive me
D Cadd9 G
For these things that I have seen and done.
D Cadd9 G
I hope I can still get home to heaven.
D Cadd9 G
I wish I had a bible Instead of this damn gun.

Interlude goes, very basically, something like this (relative to capo)

e|-----------------------|
B|-----------------------|
G|--2s4s5---4s2s4--2p0h2-|
D|-----------------------|
A|-----------------------|
E|-----------------------|

Got 60 pounds upon my back.
Machine gun in my hand.
All day long clearin burned out shacks.
All these things I know I'll never understand.

For next chorus a 2nd guitar plays this:

e|--3-2----3-2----3-2---|
B|------3------3------3-|
G|----------------------|
D|----------------------|
A|----------------------|
E|----------------------|

And Mother, please forgive me
For these things that I have seen and done.
I hope I can still get home to heaven.
I wish I had a bible
Instead of this damn gun.
Oh, I wish I had a bible
Instead of this damn gun.

Oh, I wish that I could tell you
I was safe away from harm,
But everytime I close my eyes
Mama, I wish you could hold me in your arms.

And Mother, please forgive me
For these things that I have seen and done.
I hope I can still get home to heaven.
I wish I had a bible
Instead of this damn gun.

And Mother, please forgive me
For these things that I have seen and done.
I hope I can still get home to heaven.
I wish I had a bible
Instead of this damn gun.

Oh, I wish I had a bible
Instead of this damn gun.
