Wheatus

Truth I Tell Myself

by Wheatus
Wheatus

Biography:

Wheatus is a rock band from Northport, New York formed by Brendan Brown (vocals, guitar) in 1998. After writing a few songs, Brown enlisted his brother Peter Brown (drums) and Rich Ligey (bass) to record a demo. In 1999 the band signed with Columbia Records and released their debut album, Wheatus, the following year. This album contained the band's first, and so far biggest, hit, Teenage Dirtbag (from the movie Loser).

For the bands second album, Hand Over Your Loved Ones, Shannon Harris (from Relish) joined on keyboards.

G D
You don't have to tell me that I'm stubborn
Em Bm C G D
'cause I'm not and I know 'cause it runs in my family and skips every other generation
G D Em D C
You don't have to save my soul or make me feel like I'm in control.
Em C D
It's not worth the double scotch whiskey that you'd have to buy me.

Em D G G D C
You look like you're surprised. Like when will I get wise
Em D/F# G D C D
But I'll just drive the same dead ends I've tried and I think I know why

G D Bm Em D C Bm A G Em
There's no connection between what I want and what is good for me.
D Em C
The truth I tell myself not to believe

Guitar Break - G D Em Bm C G D

G D
Yeah I know I could have been somethin'
Em Bm C
but I'm not and I know that it's somebody else's fault

Just like every other thing that's ever happened to me
G D Em D C
Yeah I could have been like the king like someone who could really sing
Em C D
Folks would line up round the corner just so they could come n' hear me

Em D G G D C
Oh There I go again. Them devils love their sin
Em D/F# G D C D
Well they can't end what I do not begin. So I'm safe where I'm in.

G D Bm Em D C Bm A G Em
There's no connection between what I want and what is good for me.
D Em C
The truth I tell myself not to believe
G D Bm Em D C Bm A G Em
There's no direction between where I am and where I'm supposed to be
D Em C
The truth I tell myself not to believe

Guitar Break - G D Em Bm C G D
G D Em D C Em C D

G D
Don't think that I'm expecting you to stay
Em Bm C
'Cause you won't and I know 'cause I've seen it a million times
G D
It's this charming self-destructive disposition of mine
G D
Yeah and all those happy endings are for fools
Em D C
Who feel like they will never loose
Em C D
Folks, who think there's a God out there that's gonna save them

Em D G G D C
I'll get this round my friend. And then we can start again
Em D/F# G D C D
Just like we did when we were who we are. Have we come that far?

Chorus
G D Bm Em D C Bm A G Em
There's no connection between what I want and what is good for me.

The truth I tell myself not to believe

The truth I tell myself not to believe
