Tracy Grammer - The Verdant Mile

CAPO: 1st Fret

INTRO: Em

I didn't want to burn like this, so close to the bone
C D
No muscle left to carry it, this black bag of stones
C D
It's a black bag

N.C. Em
Through the August heat, the autumn rain and winter's face of blue
C D
These seasons keep their spinning up, but there's no sign of you
C D
There is no sign

CHORUS:
C D
And so I walk this verdant mile
G G/F# C
Of memory with you
D
The gentle arms of Eden
Em D C D
And the mountain get me through___

Em
Well, Richard says the whippoorwill, taught him how to go
C D
I tell him death is just a dream, but I don't really know
Em
It's everything and nothing when the spirit cracks the sky
C D
But flowers fold and go to seed and no one questions why
C D
Nobody, oh no

CHORUS:
C D
And so I walk this verdant mile
G G/F# C
Of memory with you
D
The gentle arms of Eden
Em D C D
And the raven get me through___

INSTRUMENTAL: G D G C D

Em
I miss you like I love the sound of blackbirds in the trees
C D
I sit alone and wish that maybe one of you would visit me
Em
But no matter how much seed I hang, what prayer I call out
C D
I cannot bring that bird in from the field or make an angel
C D
Come around

CHORUS:
C D
And so I walk this verdant mile
G G/F# C
Of memory with you
D
The gentle arms of Eden
Em D C
And the mountain get me through___

CHORUS:
D
And so I walk this verdant mile
G G/F# C
Of memory with you
D
The gentle arms of Eden
Em D C D C D G-D-G-D-Em
And the mountain get me through______
