C D C
Look at the world in disbelief
D C
You used to follow, now you lead
D G Em
College has enlightened you
C D
And you are proud to be different
C D C
And like different bands - different types
D G C Bm
You ain't nobody's fool

A G D Em
It's like certain bands remind you of someone you hated
Bm C
'Cause they didn't wear the right clothing
G D C Bm
And there's only one true fashion
A G D Em
And a lot of the bands on the college charts are great bands
Bm C
Until they get signed. Then you hate them
G C D G
It's such bullshit, you used to love them you hypocrite.

Bm C G Bm C
Know it all, know it all, did you really listen to that song?
G Bm C
Could you ever write what you call wrong?

D C D C
I remember you and I listening to bands that we liked
D G Em
Only the songs mattered to you
C D C
But now you're a D.J. and preaching that hype
D
"Corporate Rock Sucks"
C D G C Bm A G
"You know, college radio enlightens you"

G D
It's supposed to serve as a means to expose new bands
Em Bm
Without prejudice, but it makes no sense
C G
Safe harbor for the underground
C D
'Til the alternative becomes the popular sound
G D
The bands are good 'til they make enough cash
Em Bm
To eat food and get a pad
C G
Then they've sold out and their music's cliché
C D G
Because talent's exclusive to bands without pay

Know it all, know it all, did you really listen to that song?

Could you ever write what you call wrong?

Joey Cape - Broken Record

G#
Another downtown street is lain with bodies, young for thirty.
C#
Feeling old.

I'm going home.

But I just want a drink away from home, a couple shots
C#
an ear to bend

between weekends.

This Friday night?

There's way too many people here. Not even through the door

They need a fire marshal to get in the rave. Hey, hey.

intro: F#m / C#m / E / B / D / A / C#m

F#m C#m E B
More times than five, I've been right here by your side
D A C#m
Still wondering.... where did you go?

F#m C#m E B
Walk down the hall, In a mental menacle
D E
Don't want to be 'round , When you take yourself out

A E
But I have more vigor than this
F#m C#m
Step to the plate to swing and miss
A E F#m
And it's a complicated life
B D
When "how you live, is how you die"

F#m C#m E B
Looks like your soul is connected to a wall
D A C#m
A photograph stands by the bed
F#m C#m E B
Of better times, when we crubled with our spine
D E
But lived the next day...and put the Malice away

A E
That's when I noticed the drip
F#m C#m
Ignored the line that didn't skip
A E F#m
It seemed the blue suburban sky
B D
turned to gray, polluted night

A E
So now you sleep inside a space
F#m C#m
A bed of roses, the torns replaced
A E F#m
No more sleepless nights
B D A
just for me , But as for you, a memory.
