by Tony Joe White
Tony Joe White

Biography:

Tony Joe White (Oak Grove, Louisiana, July 23, 1943 - October 24, 2018) was an American swamp rock singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie" and for "Rainy Night in Georgia", which he wrote but was first made popular by Brook Benton in 1970. He also wrote "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent for the Blues", both hits for Tina Turner in 1989; those two songs came by way of Turner's producer at the time, Mark Knopfler, who is a friend of White.

Tony Joe White - Red Neck Women

(Intro: A)

A D A
She had disco sucks on the front of her T-shirt
E
A long-neck bud in her hand

By the way she was moving I knew she wasn't fooling
A
She was in need of a man

So I walked on over to her
A7 D
And asked her if she cared to dance
E
And then she juggled up a beer and whispered sweetly in my ear
A
Come on if you're ready to take a chance
D F G A
Ah them red-neck women they'll cut you down to size
D F G A
Yeah them red-neck women they got that four wheel drive

We held each other close and danced to the slow ones
Partied on into the night
The smoke was getting thicker and my pulse was beating quicker
So I asked her if she cared to take a ride
And I kept looking in her eyes
Hoping she would give me a sign
But she said honey I don't mean to push
But let's quit beating around the bush
Is it gonna be your place or mine?
Ah them red-neck women they love to get it on
Yeah them red-neck women they party all night long
Yes them red-neck women they'll cut you down to size
Yeah them red-neck women they got that four wheel drive
