Tom Russell - Bucking Horse Moon

CAPO: 3rd Fret

[Intro]
G

[Verse 1]
D Em C
Down a one lane road, there’s a dusty fairground
G D G
Where I learned the bronc trade, I fell in love
D Em C
With a blue eyed twister and her smoky whisper
G D G
She said they call me the Cimarron Dove

[Verse 2]
D Em C
We’d spool our bedrolls on down together
G D G
My calloused hands comb through her hair
D Em C
She’d stare at a star through an old mesquite tree
G D G
“See that moon shadow, there’s a bucking horse there”

[Chorus]
Am7 G
Sweet bird of youth, no easy keeper
Am7 C D
Flown with the seasons, all too soon
C Bm
Beneath Montana's blue roan sky
Am C G
Nevada’s starlight and a bucking horse moon

[Verse 3]
D Em C
Our love reeled out like a western movie
G D G
Down hard worn highways, through the rodeo towns
D Em C
Wrapped in her wings, for the midnight flying
G D G
That bucking horse moon kept shining down

[Bridge]
Em Bm
Bucking horse moon on the hood of the truck
C G
She’d smile and say, “That means good luck”
Em Bm
Bucking horse shadow, through the purple sage
C D
We’ll ride forever, our love won’t age

[Verse 4]
G D Em C
But heart and bones are made for breaking
G D G
The Cimarron Dove’s flown with the wind
D Em C
Then a bronc in Prescott, rolled on my back
G D G
I’ll never ride rough-stock again

[Chorus]
Am7 G
Sweet bird of youth, no easy keeper
Am7 C D
Flown with the seasons, all too soon
C Bm
Beneath Montana's blue roan sky
Am C G Am C G
Nevada’s starlight and a bucking horse moon

[Verse 6]
D Em C
I lost my youth on the dusty fairgrounds
G D G
I’m an old bronc fighter, long past high noon
D Em C
But on a haunted night-wind, I can hear her whispering
G D G C
As I search the heavens, for the bucking horse moon
G D G
The Cimarron Dove and the bucking horse moon

[Chorus]
Am7 G
Sweet bird of youth, no easy keeper
Am7 C D
Flown with the seasons, all too soon
C Bm
Beneath Montana's blue roan sky
Am C G Am C G
Nevada’s starlight and a bucking horse moon
Am C G Am C G
My omen sundown and a bucking horse moon
