Biography:
Tom Paxton (born Thomas Richard Paxton on October 31, 1937) is an American singer and writer of folk music whose songs have had enduring appeal (and include modern standards such as "The Last Thing on My Mind") known for a cynical, often political edge. In 2009, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Paxton was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest child of Burton and Esther Paxton. The Paxton family moved to Bristow, Oklahoma in 1948, where Tom grew to adulthood and which he still considers home.

Each one was wearing running shoes, up-on the ghostly deck

And each one had a cotton sweater, wrapped around the neck

They all held out their credit cards, and tried in vain to buy

But all the stores were shuttered, to the Yuppies in the sky

Condos for sale____, condos to buy______, for Yuppies in the sky
I've seen them in commercials, sailing boats and playing ball
Pouring beer for one another, crying "Why not have it all"
Now I saw the ghostly progress, down Columbus Avenue
I heard the cry for mercy, and it chilled me through and through
Condos for sale, condos to buy, for Yuppies in the sky
All the salad bars were empty, all the Quiche Lorraine was gone
I heard the Yuppies crying, as they vanished in the dawn
Calling brand names to each other, as they faded from my view
They'll be networking forever, down Columbus Avenue
Condos for sale, condos to buy, for Yuppies in the sky
