Who Could Deny You

by Tim Buckley
Tim Buckley

Biography:

Timothy Charles Buckley III (February 14, 1947 – June 29, 1975) was an experimental vocalist and performer who incorporated jazz, psychedelia, funk, soul, and avant-garde rock, in a short career spanning the late 1960s and early 1970s, ending with his death at age 28 from an alcohol-heroin overdose.

Buckley often regarded his tenor voice as an instrument, a talent most noticeable on his albums Happy Sad, Lorca, and Starsailor. His first marriage was to Mary Guibert, with whom he had a child, musician Jeff Buckley.

Intro F E F

E
I know your kind,
F E
You've been through the mill, now you're standing in line,
F Am7
Too proud to beg and too tired to cry,

A

About the one that got away,

Am7 A
Your first love oh he taught you how to pay
D Bb6
And now you're all alone you've got your misery,
D
You were not taught so well sister
Bb6 Gm
That's why you ended up with me
D F#m
Now that you've found me,
D7
Oh darling please don't tease me,
D F#m D7
All of my naked years are in front of me,
Bm B
Come here darling, lay down by my side
Lovin' the way you do,
Oh, woman won't you tell me,
Tell me who,
Tell me who could deny you;

E F
You love and you lose, you're lost in the blue
E F Am7
Your turn again, you've paid your way but it's under your skin
A Am7
And it'll never let you go, under your skin so deep
A
It never really shows;
D Bb6
You're all alone but you've got your misery
D Bb6 Gm
The stage is waitin honey 'waitin' for you and me;
D F#m
Now that you've found me,
D7
Oh honey please please don't tease me,
D F#m D7
All of my naked years are in front of me,
Bm B
Come here woman, lay down by my side
Lovin' the way you do,
Oh, woman won't you tell me,
Tell me who,
Tell me who could deny you
