Tim Buckley

Hi Lily Hi Lo

by Tim Buckley
Tim Buckley

Biography:

Timothy Charles Buckley III (February 14, 1947 – June 29, 1975) was an experimental vocalist and performer who incorporated jazz, psychedelia, funk, soul, and avant-garde rock, in a short career spanning the late 1960s and early 1970s, ending with his death at age 28 from an alcohol-heroin overdose.

Buckley often regarded his tenor voice as an instrument, a talent most noticeable on his albums Happy Sad, Lorca, and Starsailor. His first marriage was to Mary Guibert, with whom he had a child, musician Jeff Buckley.

Carnival Song/Hi Lily Hi Lo
(Buckley)/(Deutch)

TIM BUCKLEY
>From Dream Letter Live In London 1968

C: x3x010
C/B: x2x010
C/A: x0x010
C/G: 3xx010
CaddD: x2303x
F6: xx3231
Dm/C: x3x231
Fsus2: xx3011

This may not be exact, (it's hard to transcribe a 12
string guitar when you don't have one) but it sounds okay.
The actual is somewhere high up on the neck (I don't
feel like finding out where).

If anyone knows what the lyric is that I have written as
"More? see the people pass Lily", please let me know.

*****
Introduction (spoken)

If you're ever in New York...(Is it a girl?)
If you're ever in New York, there's not very
many carnivals going on
And that may not be much, but uh...
If you're used to a carnival every once in a while
Then New York doesn't have it
Then you gotta write a carnival song
But that don't really make it either
'Cause what's a song without a carnival?
