Ivy

by Thundamentals
Thundamentals

Biography:

2018 marks a 'Decade of the Thundakat, and homegrown hip-hop trio Thundamentals are celebrating their 10-year career by creating more infectious, instantly memorable music.
Thundamentals have released their succinctly-titled single Miss You, co-produced with Sydney multi-instrumentalist Carl Dimataga (Khalid). It's a chance for the group to discuss friendships that have dissolved over time, and the role that social media has played in creating a false sense of connection.

[Intro]
C G Am F

[Chorus]
C G Am F
I thought that I was dreaming when you said you love me
C
The start of nothing
G
I had no chance to prepare
Am F
I couldn't see you coming
C
The start of nothing new
G
I could hate you now
Am F
It's quite alright to hate me now
C G
When we both know that deep down
Am F
The feeling still deep down is good

C G Am
I’d love to hold your hand again
Am F
I wanna feel the warmth between my fingers
C G Am
From the first sign of spring to the scorching heat of summer
Am F
Autumn through the winter, ignore it all, sleeping underneath the covers
C G Am
I wanna wake up every morning with ya
Am F
I wanna make love until the afternoon
C G Am
I miss you more than just this picture hidden in my memory, tattooed
Am F
Every time I think of something real I always start with you
C G Am
So nice to see you with a girlfriend
Am F
I love it when you’re happy, I remember when
C G Am
You told me 'bout your business, how you thought you’d have to give in
Am F
But you didn’t, now it’s bigger just like fuckin’ magic
C G Am
I miss you smiling at me from across the room
Am F
I miss being a part of something cool
C G Am
With somebody like you, I don’t wanna be a stranger
Am F
Really, what will that do? Hey

[Verse 2]
C G Am
If I could see the walls, I could see you faking
Am F
If you could see my thoughts you would see your face is
C G Am
I wish we could talk, but it won't help
Am F
I don't wanna be a stranger

[Chorus]
C G Am F
I thought that I was dreaming when you said you love me
C
The start of nothing
G
I had no chance to prepare
Am F
I couldn't see you coming

The start of nothing new
G
I could hate you now
Am F
It's quite alright to hate me now
C G
When we both know that deep down
Am F C
The feeling still deep down is good

[Verse 2]
C G Am
'Cause I ain’t just tryna write a love song, still I sing a bittersweet
Am F
Melody, you were eighteen and I was twenty-three
C G Am
It was destiny, but this is my apology
F
I couldn’t see what’s right in front of me, the forrest for the trees
C G
I probably haven’t been as onto it as I coulda
Am F
Shoulda, woulda, hiding from my problems with my hood up
C G
Just know it wasn’t you, I was running from my past
Am F
My reflection in the mirror had me sucking on a flask
C
Had that liquor, but it switched up when we went in for that scan
G Am
Held your hand as the doctor said, “We got a little man”
F
That was growing in your stomach, silhouettes upon the screen
C
I want you to know I loved him, but it wasn’t meant to be
G Am F
Heavenly Father keep an eye out for my son
C G Am
And my pops, to my mamacita, know that you’re the one
Am F
Understand I'ma be a better lover and a friend
C G Am
Even if it doesn’t last I’ll still love you to the end

[Pre-chorus]
C G
You ain't a kid no more
G Am F
We'll never be those kids again

[Chorus]
C G Am F
I thought that I was dreaming when you said you love me
C
The start of nothing
G
I had no chance to prepare
Am F
I couldn't see you coming

The start of nothing new

I could hate you now
Am F
It's quite alright to hate me now
C G
When we both know that deep down
